Energuide For Houses Program

One of the most popular programs offered by Natural Resources Canada is the Energuide For Houses Program that you hear me talk about on my radio shows. Why would I bring this up in the middle of summer? Well, there are a couple of good reasons.

First of all, it doesn’t matter what time of year you have your home tested, the results will be the same. You’ll find out where you can make improvements to make your home more energy efficient. You’ll receive a detailed report that will make recommendations that might include a new high efficiency heating system, upgraded insulation, draft-proofing or maybe new high efficiency replacement windows.

Secondly, you may be able to take advantage of some special offers and incentives that will encourage you to get the evaluation done in the warm summer months.

Also, you might just find that summer time is the best time to grind a deal on the improvements you need. For example, if you decide to upgrade to a new high-efficiency furnace, it is quite likely that you’ll be able to drive a harder bargain in the summer than you could if you try to get that new furnace installed in the dead of winter when all the heating contractors are running flat out.

And, if you live in an area where it not only gets cold in the winter but also gets very hot in the summer, the improvements you make now will mean that your house will be more comfortable in the heat of summer and if you have air-conditioning, it won’t have to work as hard to keep your home nice and cool.
